Pride of Scotland Andy Murray´s dream run to the last eight of Wimbledon came to a ruthless end when he ran into Rafael Nadal.

It was men against boys stuff as the Dunblane strokemaker was blown away on Centre Court in straight sets.

Murray is being tipped by patriotic Brits to win a Major one day but the magnitude of the spanking dished out by the muscular Mallorcan clearly demonstrates how far behind he actually is. On that evidence he will never win a Major if he needs to get past a Nadal or a Roger Federer.

So, Andy Murray is safely through to the second round of Wimbledon. But who cares about him? Because the notoriously grumpy Scot has been surpassed in the ‘heroic Brit stakes’ by an unknown 20-year-old from Surrey.

Chris Eaton’s his name, and he’s ranked considerably lower than Murray – 661st in the world, to be precise. He hammered Serbia’s Boris Pasanski in straight sets – and hammered is the right word, for he lashed down 26 aces to batter Pasanski into submission – and now faces Dmitry Tursunov on Thursday. Tursunov is seeded 25th in the tournament but even so, Eaton is pretty confident.

Oh my word there’s no stopping Rafael Nadal, he’s on a mission to dominate at Wimbledon after wiping the floor with Novak Djokovich, 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 in the Artois Final at Queen’s . And all this clean on the back of his French Open win a week ago.

Nadal is keen to rectify his clay-only image with some class grass action. The next match practice he’ll get will be courtesy of Marat Safin on Friday at the Fortis Tennis Classic at the Hurlingham Club. He said:

What a bleeding bunch of kill-joys we are, no sooner has Rafael Nadal scored a blinder by beating the pants off Roger Federer at Roland Garros and bagging his fourth French Open win, that we’re getting the bleeding knives out. Like a bloody bunch of old women prattling on about how he’ll never do the same on grass - nothing like a bit of encouragement! (and a sack of sour grapes.)

Sunday is the big day for tennis as the French Open kicks off at the Stade De Roland Garros. Of course we Brits will be rooting for Scottish tantrum aficionado Andy Murray, and since other British hopefuls like Katie O’Brien and Alex Bogdanovich crashed in and out of the qualifiers.

Let’s face it we all know that Murray loses his rag more often than not, despite giving more apologies than a wife-beater. Will Andy Murray have something to celebrate later on today? He is facing up to world number two Rafael Nadal at the Hamburg Masters at 5 pm today. This is the third time the duo have had a show-down, 21 year-old Nadal is s*** hot on clay having won the Monte Carlo and Barcelona titles on clay, whilst Murray is known to lose his rag on the red stuff!

Murray said: "It’ll be a good experience for me; he’s obviously playing unbelievable on clay."

Women’s world number one 25 year-old Belgian Justine Henin has said that she is retiring from professional tennis. The seven Grand Slam titles and four-time French Open winner, lost to Dinara Safina in the third round of the German Open last week and has pulled out of this week’s Italian Open citing fatigue.

The recent slump in her game is responsible for the decision which the 5 foot 5 inch player has taken, with immediate effect.
