Tiger Woods Vows To Be Fit For US Open

Will Tiger Woods Strike At The US Open?

When Tiger Woods talks about rehab he doesn't mean in the Amy Winehouse sense of the word. He means getting his knackered left knee back into shape in time for next month's US Open. Woods has been out of action since his second place finish in the Masters in April. He had surgery on the troublesome knee for the third time and said:

"Rehab is working. It's been boring, but the leg is starting to gain some strength. I'm not a patient kind of guy when it comes to that."

We know, as the world number one said he would wipe the floor with the opposition for the rest of 2008, OK so he held three titles at the same time but that run came to an end with the recurrence of the dodgy knee.  Woods is eagle-eyed and focused on getting better and even let this week's Memorial Tournament fall by the wayside to help him recuperate properly and to possibly make it a seven-time win at Torrey Pines in California. He admits recovery has been slow:

"I always want to go all out. Sometimes it is hard for me not to do that, but I have got to be smart about it. And I've done that. It gets really old riding that bike but everything is on schedule." Of the Memorial he said:

"Going to Memorial that rusty, it wouldn't have made any sense. I wasn't sharp enough. I didn't hit all my shots I needed to hit yet at home and make sure everything is organised. I wasn't quite ready, so no sense in going there not ready. The whole idea is to be ready for the US Open."

Roll on the US Open from the 12th to the 15th June. More to the point let's see what Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose can throw into the mix.
