Mum's The Word

Let's eavesdrop on a conversation between a newly pregnant couple. "If it's a boy he can play football with you…" blah blah blah, you get the gist. So hundreds of dads get to look forward to spreading their football knowledge and so the football lineage continues into the next generation!
So here's the logic, women usually hate football, they can't stand to see it, hear it - so it follows that they won't have much of a clue about playing it? Right? OK you're with us so far. How about coaching then? Nah definitely not! But it runs out that when it comes to coaching football, mums outdo dads because they are naturals at motivating children.
Well that's according to a new study. Cue McDonalds and their 'Mums on the Ball' campaign launched to enroll mothers as grass roots coaches for kids' leagues. Why? Because apparently mums can get the best out of young footballers through years of being unpaid teachers, nurses, counselors and disciplinarians.
Famous footy mums backing the scheme include Rio Ferdinand's and Theo Walcott's mums. Theo's mum said:
"I agree that many of the qualities I have as a mother are totally relevant to coaching youngsters."
Even World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst had to agree that mums bring out the best in young players. He said: "Mums know how to engage children, how to speak their language and how to motivate them."
