More Tips For The Grand National 2008

The Grand National 2008

The Grand National 2008 is almost upon us and the heebie jeebies are setting in. For those of you who still don't know where to place your bets on what is often considered to be the race of the year, then here's a quick run-down of yesterday's action…

Be wise in your decision… Good luck!

1400  Mildmay Novices' Chase

Given a brilliant ride by Ruby Walsh, Big Buck's took it up at the last and quickened clear from Battlecry who tried to make all. Albertas Run stayed on for third but was much better suited by the galloping track at Cheltenham.

1435 The Sefton Novices' Hurdle

In a great duel from the last Paddy Brennan got a great tune out of Petitfour. He just outstayed the Tony McCoy ridden Gone To Lunch. Talk of the World Hurdle 2009 is probably premature but the winner is definitely very progressive. Tazbar was a very disappointing favourite. He jumped slowly and was never in contention. Perhaps he needs slower ground.

1510 Melling Chase

Voy Por Ustedes gained handsome revenge for his defeat in the Queen Mother. Master Minded cruised up to Voy Por Ustedes at the second last. However, when Ruby pressed the button Master Minded was running on empty. Master Minded is a 2 mile horse pure and simple. He has eased slightly in the betting for the 2009 Queen Mother but will be very much the one to beat.

1545 Topham Trophy

A great win for Gwanako! The big National fences held no fears for him. He is only small but a real athlete. He was spring heeled at his fences and hardly touched a twig on the way round. (Hopefully you took the generous prices when first advised.)

1620 Top Novices' Hurdle

The Paul Nicholls bandwagon rolls on. A most impressive win here for Pierrot Lunaire as he spread eagled a good quality field. He is now being quoted at 20/1 for the Champion Hurdle 2009 but it is worth remembering that the hot favourite Captain Cee Bee (as anticipated in our preview) did not act on the course. Pierrot Lunaire was also getting all the weight allowances.

1655 Totepool Handicap Chase

One of only two left in the jackpot Oedipe gave at least one punter a great thrill. Ridden by Mick Fitzgerald's understudy Andrew Tinkler he came home a very worthy winner at 20/1.

So what do we reckon for the racing action today?

All looks set fair for today and barring a cloud burst we should be racing on good ground.

In the National our four against the field are Cloudy Lane, Comply or Die, L'ami and Baily Breeze. Cape Tribulation in the 5:35 (the getting out stakes) is the suggestion for the truly desperate.
