Has Ricky Hatton Eaten Too Many Pies?

Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton is renowned for his love of the pies and fast food when he's not prepping himself for a fight. So it's no surprise to us that his opponents will use his love of the Greggs pasty against him. The latest in a long line of dissenters is Juan Lazcano's trainer Ronnie Shields. Hatton takes on the 33 year-old Mexican in the IBO light-welterweight clash at the City of Manchester stadium.

Hatton has already said that this could be his last UK fight, but he has a lot to prove since that infamous Floyd Mayweather beating in December. Many consider the outcome to be a distinct result of moving up to welterweight to fight Mayweather, so all weighty issues for Hatton. Shields said:

"I think his lifestyle has finally caught up with him. Ricky has a lot to prove because he got knocked out by Floyd Mayweather. Floyd's not a puncher, he's never knocked anyone out, he's a decision guy. For him to KO Ricky, it wasn't because of Floyd's punching power; it was because Ricky has gone downhill."

Hatton has always remained true to himself and his love of the stodge but is well known for yoyo-ing between fights. But despite this he has dropped down to light-welterweight for Saturdays bouts. Shields added:

"I think the lifestyle is catching up on him. Whether Ricky realises that or not I don't know." So it looks like the traditional psyching before a fight has moved from fighters to trainers. Like this piece of prize vernacular!

"Juan is a veteran of the boxing game, one of the best fighters I've seen in a long time. I've never seen him more hyped for a fight and I've been around him for 20 years."
