German Giants Felled By Spanish Artistry!

Spain Reign With Torres

300 million tuned in to watch last night´s Euro final - that´s exactly 299,999,999 more people than watched Jay Z´s set at Glastonbury.

I´m sure Beyonce Knowles enjoyed it as much as all those Spanish fans who partied long into the night (and Liverpool´s fat cat American owners who can stick an extra 10 million quid on Fernando Torres´s head after he scored the deciding goal).

As Spain headed into the final most punters fancied them strongly on account of the great footy they had played throughout. But I wasn´t so sure, I had a feeling Luis Aragones´s slender side were going to get bullied off the park.

My mate Dave had been down at pitch level working as a cameraman for all of Germany´s group and knockout matches. "You should see the size of them Germans, they´ve got 8 or 9 monsters in the side."

That explains a lot really because despite a couple of cameo performances from Michael Ballack and a fine 90 minutes from Bastian Schweinsteiger against Portugal the Germans have been decidedly average. The hallmark of their progress in this tournament had been physical presence rather than footballing ability.

But against Spain in the Vienna final Joachim Low´s side were shown that you don´t need height and brawn when you possess great technique and skill. Every single player looks so comfortable with the ball at feet and they could have stuck at least four past Germany with a shade more luck.

The dainty matadors well and truly slayed those raging German bulls.
