Aussies Want Indian Premier League

Oh dear oh dear we think that the IPL is set to cause some major ructions all round. The websites don't work and all hell is letting loose. And now seeing that the world has sat back and watched the drama of the Indian Premier League unfold, some moneybags somewhere have had a 100 watt idea.

With most of the British cricketers vetoing the IPL because of their county cricket commitments, it allowed us to see the lie of the land. Who's committed and who isn't, as such the Aussies are thinking of launching their own IPL. It would probably be the only way they could keep their mitts on the likes of Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee, Matt Hayden, Andrew Symonds, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath who took a real fancy to the IPL.

Cricket Australia is looking to launch a privately funded Twenty20 competition similar to the Indian Premier League. Acting chief executive Michael Brown said:

"We always look at new ideas. We remain committed to international tours, but we are also aware of what Allen Stanford is planning in the West Indies with Twenty20, as is the International Cricket Council. We will also be monitoring the new IPL competition, which is about to start in India. It will be a case of suck it and see."

This comes after reports that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is in talks with American billionaire Allen Stanford to discuss an IPL equivalent Twenty20 tournament in England. The squeeze has been put on the board to release Test captain Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen to take a wedge of IPL money pie as long as it doesn't clash with international commitments. So far only Dimitri Mascarenhas is signed to take part in the IPL.

Place your bets on the shenanigans and see how it all pans out with Bodog's IPL odds.
