Andrew Strauss Gets Political

Here at Bodog you could call us a bit of an old-fashioned bunch. We're creatures of habit, we know what we want and we know where to get it. We like what we like and we know what we know…blah de blah. Not that we're saying we can't be unpredictable because we can, it's just that if we want a footballer say, we want him to shut his gob and get on with the game instead of gassing on about fashion or some such subject.

Of course there are exceptions when the boundaries get a bit blurred and we have to make allowances for what we hear. Take sportsmen  turning their hand to something else, like opening restaurants or fashion lines. Even politics, take Olympian Seb Coe or Arnie for that matter.

But what happens when the politics interfere with the game? Well we have been known to get a little disgruntled, because we don't let anything come in between us and our sport. It's bad enough that there has been such a furore over the Beijing Olympics, what with torch ceremonies going tits up the world over.

A little closer to home England cricketer Andrew Strauss has decided to get his noggin around the minefield that is Zimbabwe. He has gone as far as to say that England cricketers are considering boycotting matches in the beleaguered country next year if President Robert Mugabe is still in power! He was talking at a Q & A session at Lord's after an address by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Strauss said:

"There's a great sense among the general population that our last tour to Zimbabwe shouldn't have gone ahead. It has come down to a certain extent to personal preference and there have been some tough decisions made in previous tours. When we come round to the issue again we all hope that the political situation in Zimbabwe is very different. But if it isn't there are going to be more very difficult decisions to be made."

Like the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on sports Wilfried Lemke said:

"What politics cannot solve, you can be sure sportsmen cannot solve."

There you go boys that's you told!! Anyway if you want to bet on Test Cricket and see what Strauss does best check out Bodog's Cricket odds. June's full of One Day International action, so get in there!
