Prince Harry is again stirring the controversy pot — and is now under suspicion for killing two rare hen harriers, a legally protected bird of prey, at the family's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

The prince and his mate were nearby when the birds were shot, and the media has suggested the two were the only hunters on the estate at the time.

"Because Prince Harry and a friend were both in the area at the time, the police have been in contact with them and asked them if they had any information that could help," an official told TIME. "Unfortunately, they had no knowledge of the alleged incident."

The penalty for killing birds as rare as the hen harrier is up to six months in prison for a £5,000 fine. However, if the shooting appears to be accidental, the penalty is likely to be less severe. According to Norfolk police, "The investigation is ongoing. We are interviewing three people and will be making a report to the Crown Prosecution Service for a decision."
