Ant And Dec In Another ITV Scandal

Ant and Dec Phone Scandal

ITV what can you do with them eh?  If it's not rigging phone votes, producing crap like Britain's Got Talent, rigging phone votes, fleecing viewers of cash in rigged phone votes it's now revealed that it er, rigged a phone vote.

This time though it's not ITV's fault, no it's alien seeking porker Robbie Williams' , well kind of.  It appears that in 2005 some wise soul at the channel thought that it might be a nice idea to give Ant and Dec the People Choice award at that year's Comedy Awards.

Robbie was still a bit of a draw back in 2005 and would only appear at the show if he could present an award to his Geordie japester mates.  So rather than tell Robbie to do one some bright spark at the broadcaster decided to give them the award that viewers had awarded to Catherine Tate.  That was the only award they could manufacture apparently because the voting panel had already decided the other awards and poor little Ant and Dec weren't included –possibly because they ain't comedians.

You've got to feel sorry for the Geordie hobbits.  They are undoubtedly the ITV crown jewels but it's always their shows that seem to be hit the hardest by the bungling idiots in charge of the phone line votes.  Last October Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway was fined £3m, Ant and Dec's Gameshow Marathon was hit with a £1.2m fine and Soapstar Superstar £1.2m.  And now this little gem.

A probe has now revealed that Robbie was indeed lured to the show by an evil Machiavellian type at ITV – with the promise of an award to give to Ant and Dec and rumours of aliens and as much cake as he could eat. We don't know if the probe in question was the same type of probe favoured by aliens when experimenting on kidnapped humans.

The report said the promise to Robbie, "was an assurance that could not legitimately be guaranteed". Well Robbie should have known in advance that aliens appear when they want to, ahh we see, they mean the Ant and Dec thing.

It added that there is no suggestion that Robbie or Ant and Dec were aware of "any of these issues". They have been tainted by the OFCOM report which slammed their executive producer on the shows though. Ant and Dec have now "angrily" handed back the award, whether that means with a snarl, throwing it or jumping up and down having a hissy fit is unclear at this stage.

So we'll sit and wait for the latest in a long line of grovelling ITV excuses / apologies.  In the meantime they've again demonstrated the contempt with which they treat the viewing public and the golden bollocks Geordie duo.
