It could be one of the greatest sporting comebacks in recent history, perhaps of all time. The great Brett Favre has binned his decision to retire from the NFL, but he won’t be suiting up for Green Bay Packers, the team he inspired to Super Bowl XXXI victory. Favre has signed instead for New York Jets, having been traded late on Wednesday night.

The 38-year-old – three times NFL MVP – had announced his retirement back in March, stepping down from a glittering career. Crazy scenes on the opening day of the USPGA championship. You expect rain to wreck Wimbledon, or the cricket, but not a golf tournament in Michigan. Yet that’s exactly what happened – at around 5pm, a freak thunderstorm forced half the competitors to abandon their round and head for the safety of the clubhouse. Play was resumed after an hour, but even so, some 37 players have yet to complete their opening round.
