You can almost picture Harry Redknapp saying the words and rubbing his hands together vigorously at the same time. “Well, it’s yer classic little-man, big-man partnership, innit? Luvvly jubbly!”

Well, those weren’t his exact words, but they weren’t far off after the Portsmouth boss successfully completed the signing of Peter Crouch from Liverpool. At 6ft 7ins, Crouch is a pretty big man big man – and at 5ft 7ins, his likely strike partner, Jermain Defoe is a fairly little little man. Together, though, they could prove one hell of a dangerous pairing for ambitious Pompey next season.

This morning, a large sigh of relief could be heard emanating from Bodog HQ. Normally such sounds of relieved contentment are reserved for the online browsing that goes above and beyond the call of duty, but today it was achieved without even having to disable the ’safe-search’ filter.

It came when we realised that the period of the WSOP’s main event that features multiple opening days is now over and from this point on, the action will be far easier to report.

Gareth Southgate Raises A Laugh

I stubbed my big toe on a skirting board getting out of the shower this morning and it blooming knackered. Put me in a right bad mood I can tell you.

But luckily some light relief followed shortly afterwards when I opened the paper to read that Gareth Southgate has decided to turn his hand to stand up comedy. At least that can be the only explanation for GS saying he can take his side, Middlesbrough, into the Champions League.
