Dwain Chambers Dropped By Castleford

What is Dwain Chambers to do now? He has been released by Super League Club Castleford Tigers after having a month-long trial with the club. It was considered to be a lifeline for the disgraced sprinter who caused controversy after his use of banned steroid THG. Having been banned for two years he made an abortive attempt to play American football and now his foray into rugby league has ended the same way.

The club said that at age of 30 he didn’t have much time to create a niche for himself within the sport and probably wouldn’t make it into the first team. Chief executive Richard Wright said:

"Our coaching team feels that he would need a significant amount of additional …

Turkish Grand Prix Anthony Davidson's Woes

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Anthony Davidson Gets The Hump

Spotted this in the classified ads section of the newspaper earlier today: ‘Driver who loves to razz around corners really, really, really fast while shouting “vroooooooom! vrooooom!” seeks high-powered company who like making and running mega-quick motors. Happy to work weekends, but likes getting paid for it’.

That’s pretty much the plea coming from Anthony Davidson, the British F1 driver who has been left high and dry and without a ride after the sad collapse of the Super Aguri team. Already denied a place in the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend, the Oxfordshire-based team has since officially withdrawn from the 2008 world championship due to financial difficulties and is now under administration.

All this leaves Davidson – one of a quartet of …

Tiger's Absence Will Allow Ames And Westy To Clean Up

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Tiger Woods

Golf´s "fifth Major" gets underway this week as the world´s best duke it out for Players Championship at Sawgrass.

Tiger Woods misses the event as he recuperates from knee ligament surgery but the great man hasn´t experienced a great strike rate on the tricky Pete Dye designed layout with only one win here in 2001.

This is very much a course for thinkers. And with that in mind the Beat golf team has been pouring through the form book in the hope of landing this year´s winner. Neat and tidy 2006 Players Champion Stephen Ames is available at tasty odds and is well worth investment. Ames usually saves his best performances for courses with Bermuda grass greens and his record in Florida (where most …

Scottish Amateur Poker Championship

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Scottish Amateur Poker Championship

There are plenty of ways to celebrate May Day in Scotland but Jason Jones opted to mark the occasion in his own style by winning the Scottish Amateur Poker Championship at the Gala Maybury Casino in Edinburgh. His efforts earned him £3,000, a silver cup, a gold medal and an expenses paid entry into a GUKPT event.

The long weekend and the low entrance fee of £75 caused the tournament to sell all of its 132 places. Players were also attracted by the slow clock, the 10,000 starting chips and the friendly atmosphere but, by the end of Day 1, only 22 had survived.

By the time the final table of 9 had formed, Jones was 6th with a below average stack. …

Dannii Minogue And Lewis Hamilton Get It On

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Lewis Hamilton And Dannii Minogue

It looks like Dannii Minogue could be bagging herself another Formula 1 driver, in the shape of Lewis Hamilton. He’s been bombarding her with text messages for a while now but Kylie’s little sister has given in and agreed to meet Lewis at the Monaco Grand Prix later this month.

She was engaged to Canadian F1 racer Jacques Villeneuve a while back but seems to have developed a bit of a soft spot for Hamilton who she described as "mostly perfect in every way, shape and form.”

She added:

"I really started to follow Lewis (in 2006) and I just admired not only his driving but the way he conducted himself. He is an amazing, amazing guy."

After being linked with Pussycat Doll Nicole …

Brucie Will Play His Cards Right For Sir Alex

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Cristiano Ronaldo and Alex Ferguson

What´s Brucie´s bonus if his Wigan players take a well timed cigarette break to let Cristiano Ronaldo and company sneak in and help themselves to the crown jewels on Sunday?

But do it subtly lads, FFS don´t make it too obvious, or those Chelsea boys will kick up a right stink. Wigan´s not far from Manchester. The right result at the JJB will mean Steve Bruce can avoid being run off the M6 by United supporting White Van Men for the rest of his days.

Cut the man with the wonkiest nose in football in half and he´d bleed red and white. The rugged ex-old Trafford skipper helped United to eight items of silverware in his spell at the club - …
