Barca Not So Brilliant!

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Ronaldinho

Barcelona - underdogs. There’s a phrase that hardly ever gets used. But it’s definitely true ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final against Man United, even with Barcelona enjoying home advantage in the first leg. Mind you, any other team in Europe would be underdogs against this United side, which is strong in every area of the park.

United are the best club team in Europe right now. Barcelona are not. Hell, Barcelona are not even the best club team in Spain this year. Two years ago, they were head and shoulders above anything else in La Liga; now they’ve been overtaken by Real Madrid. And, in many ways, they’re becoming a bit like Real themselves. The old Real, that is, …

WPT At The Bellagio

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
WPT At The Bellagio

In the world of American professional poker players, the card room at The Bellagio is sometimes referred to as ‘the office’ due to the high table limits. Like any other workplace, sometimes there are bullies and victims, sometimes there is a bit of sexual tension and occasionally it needs new faces to prevent the air becoming stale

So, with spring in the air, The Bellagio saw plenty of new players skipping over to play in WPT World Championship, a week long event that began on Saturday. The casino’s workforce, which is said to number up to 10,000, had its work cut out attending to the needs of the new recruits but, of 545 starters, there are only 188 still demanding drinks …

GUKPT

Leg 4 of the extremely popular Grosvenor UK Poker Tour began in Manchester yesterday with a two day £200 NL Freezeout. However, the action really begins on Thursday with the first of two opening days for the main event – a £1000 buy-in, NL tournament. So, after watching the delights of Barcelona versus Manchester United, the players can settle into their seats and try to play a beautiful game of their own.

The tournament follows the standard structure of the GUKPT, so with roughly 300 players expected, the winner will snag about 30% of the prize pool, which is likely to be about £100,000. The last person sitting will also receive a seat in the tour’s Grand Final and a seat …

Leona Lewis To Get Mariah Carey's Trainer

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Leona Lewis To Get Mariah Carey's Trainer

Oh dear it’s already beginning for Leona Lewis. Remember Simon Cowell prattling on about how unsullied she was by the whole fame and celebrity game? Well we think that’s about to change as the Bleeding Love singer is hiring Mariah Carey’s physical trainer Patricia to help trim off the flab. (Well it worked wonders for Ms Piggy Mariah). We wonder how much prodding and poking one person take before they crack - look at Queen Posh she’d sell her grandma just to fit in with the American dream.

A source told us that Leona just needs to sex it up. Here’s the meat and bones (soon to be bag ‘o’ bones of it:

“Lewis has done brilliantly in the US. But …

Form An Orderly Queue For Mr Calzaghe

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Joe Calzaghe

It was a close call for Joe Calzaghe at the weekend in his rumble against Bernard Hopkins. The charismatic Welshman had said that this will be his last year of fighting, before retirement looms but he does hope to remain undefeated. He may not get his wish however, as soon as he beat Hopkins in Las Vegas with a split decision, the contenders have crawled out of the woodwork.

Light-heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver has said that he would fight Calzaghe "wherever he wants", Tarver recently beat Clinton Woods to grab the IBF title. Other likely lads that want a piece include American Roy Jones Junior, WBC light-heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and middleweight Kelly Pavlik. A rematch with Hopkins was instantly dismissed, …

BAFTA's Revealed As Insomnia Cure

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Bruce Forsyth

British comedy had the last laugh last night at the incredibly dull and uninspiring BAFTA awards, with Gavin and Stacey scooping two awards and Harry Hill also scoring a brace.

BBC 3’s ‘Gavin and Stacey’ the pre match underdogs fought off tough competition from Alan Sugar’s  Business School for retards aka ‘The Apprentice’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing but still walked away with ‘Programme of the Year’.

Before the show James Corden wasn’t quite so confident and claimed that the “little digital show” had “no chance of winning”and branded the BAFTA judges as “pricks” for not nominating the show for Best Sitcom.

So when the show was awarded Best Programme did he eat his words? Did he ‘eck, he …

Champions League Ready For Kick Off

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
Rafa Benitez

When I first told my Canadian uncle Eugene that I once rode a scooter to work he pulled me to one side and whispered "Hey, scooters are a bit like having nookie with an ugly broad. They can be a lot of fun but you wouldn´t want your mates to know about it."

Take a look at the four remaining sides left in the Champions League. The class, verve and Natalie Imbruglia-like panache of Barcelona and Manchester United versus the Sally Gunnell-like functionality of Liverpool and Chelsea.

And when it comes to punting, it´s all very well sticking your hard earned dough down on glitzy Barcelona to be hoisting the Champions Trophy in Moscow next month but the odds are against …
