Here at Bodog HQ we have had an epiphany, aye a tricky word that, but all the same it means we have rethunk (yup we made that one up) our position on the hallowed Bodog girl. Just look at her, Olya the Great bejwelled and all that - she’s doing her best to get us chaps interested in sport. Waterford in Ireland maybe home to the world famous Waterford Crystal, (you know the stuff - sparkly, multi-facetted goblets and the like, goes perfectly with that canteen of cutlery on the wedding gift list.) but this weekend the town was home to a poker bonanza.

The live Bodog sponsored tournament put its winners and losers through its paces and was run in conjunction with the Waterford Institute of Technology. 148 runners took part in the €40 tournament, but Bodog added €3,000 to the prize pool to crank it up to €6,000.  Not only that, players at the tournament also bought into an exclusive online tournament held at Bodoglife.com. The measly €10 meant a guaranteed €3,000 and started at 6pm GMT yesterday.

It is difficult to imagine a better place to host a poker tournament than Monte Carlo. The final of the EPT, currently taking place in the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, can be proud to join other sporting spectactulars such as the Monte Carlo Masters, the Circuit de Monaco and the fiercely competitive mini golf games at the Princess Antoinette Park.

820 high class poker players began avoiding the region’s beautiful scenery and competing for the €2,020,000 first prize on Saturday. So now we know. Arsenal’s trophy hopes, for a season at least, are dead. It’s been a long, painful process – like a slow torture – but it’s time to be merciful and put the beast out of its misery. What a shame.

For most of the season, it’s been Arsenal slugging it out with Chelsea and Man Utd, but also more than that. Oh Arsene, Arsene, what happened? Things were all going so well, and then…well, disaster frankly. Nobody gave Arsenal a hope in hell’s chance at the beginning of the season, but it looked like they might compete on all fronts at one stage.

Trevor Immelman will wake up this morning as 2008 Masters champion. He´ll make a cup of tea, possibly stick some bread in the toaster and a bit later maybe run himself a nice bath.

And he´ll find each of those daily rituals more difficult than the cakewalk that his Masters win was, thanks to the pathetic challenge from the rest of his competitors at Augusta.

So poor were the others, a three over par 75 was good enough to claim the worst Masters of all time for the South African.
