So it has come to a ban for Lawrence Dallaglio. Well that’s what happens when you start battering the opposition at any given opportunity. Dallaglio lashed out at Leicester’s Julian White during the latter stages of last weekend’s EDF Energy Cup semi-final at the Millenium Stadium.

It’s not really a great end to a sparkling 18 year career in which he has never been booked and he only has six games left before retirement from the sport. He said: "I acknowledge that my actions infringed the rules, although I wish to stress that they were unintentional and without any malice."

It looks like basketball is coming to town. Not just yet but in October, as the NBA have announced that the Miami Heat and the New Jersey Nets will play a pre-season match in London.

The huge success of last year’s NBA Live which saw Boston Celtics beat Minnesota Timberwolves 92-81, is a primary factor. The O2 Arena will host the game as part of a Europe Live four game tour which will also take in Paris, Berlin and Barcelona. This is the latest in a spate of sports that will be staged in London.

Luckily I had my two-year-old son´s plastic golf set to distract me while England went through the motions of their mind numbing international friendly against the kermit cannibals.

By the half hour mark as most England fans had slipped into a coma I had reached Amen Corner at Augusta in a majestic 36 strokes, two shots behind Tiger.

And then I glanced back at the TV to see a "past it" David Beckham toiling away in his 100th England benefit. Infact, that´s all the game in Stade France was, a Beckham benefit.
