Javier Mascherano was a complete idiot. Whether you think he deserved that second yellow card or not (personally I do), it doesn’t really matter. From the early stages of the match he looked like he was going to get sent off, and sure enough it happened.
Once you have that first yellow card, don’t go lunging into challenges, and don’t give the referee any backchat. It’s not difficult. You can spout as much crap as you want about passion and ‘the heat of the moment’, but the buck-toothed Argentine was looking for confrontation from the moment he stepped onto the pitch. He got into an argument with the ref that he could’ve easily avoided, and got everything he deserved.
