Bodog Poker Open: Event One

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you will know that the inaugural Bodog Poker Open hosted its first event last night in the Bodog Poker Room. $26,063.50 was the first prize on offer and the prize pool swelled to $94,250 and then a further 10k thrown in by Bodog.

It wouldn’t come as any shocker that the usual Bodog suspects would be on hand to snatch the cash. Evelyn Ng, Josh Arieh and David Williams showed up as well as some of the best online poker pros. Think "Annette_15" Obrestad, Jon "PearlJammer" Turner,  Eric "Rizen" Lynch to name a few.

Ultimately Evelyn Ng and Josh Arieh made it to the final table but ended up in second and third respectively to …

Uefa Cup: Meet The Battering Ramos

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
ramos

We know what a tough cookie Juande Ramos is, what with the diets for players and strict disciplinarian regime. He’s equally as tight with his player’s futures ahead of Spurs Uefa Cup last 16 first leg clash against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday. And we believe every word that the man dubbed ‘granite-face’ says because with wins in his last five games for the club (well that was until Birmingham) he means business.

He scares us though and we reckon that the team didn’t get a pat on the back after their 4-1 defeat against the Brummie side either. In fact star striker Robbie Keane whose neck shouldn’t be on the line after his 20 goal performance record, said: "The boss said, …

Musical Statues In Leicester

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
footy

Aren’t we a funny lot? We like to argue about the strangest things - this time it’s the turn of protesters in Leicester to have a whine about a commemorative statue. Leicester Council would like to install a 20 grand Mahatma Gandhi in a predominantly Indian part of town but the some would prefer a Gary Linekar!

Leicester-born Linekar is the face of the city’s Walkers crisps, a prominent footy star (in his time) who scored 10 World Cup goals and was never booked in his entire playing career. Not much in it really? Both fans of passive resistance then!

RBS Six Nations: Oh Danny Boy!

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
danny

Here it is then. Having resisted the temptation to throw caution to the wind and hand Danny Cipriani a first Test start so far, Brian Ashton has now obliged. Cipriani, the boy wonder of English rugby, is in the team to face Scotland.

And what a start it is. Scotland are out of form, with three straight Six Nations defeats, but make no mistake – a full debut in front of a hostile Murrayfield crowd is a baptism of fire alright. Not only that, but the 20-year-old will be used in what has been England’s problem so far, at full-back. On top of all that, it’s not even his regular position. Cipriani had better be as good as they say.

In …

Amy Turns The Other Cheek!

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
amy

Some of us are born on the edge and some of us get put there without choice. And it’s not often that we volunteer that we go to the frontline. Amy Winehouse we all know has a bit of a thing for self harm and other dodgy shenanigans but her latest antic might mean she has a career as a stuntwoman or even a circus act (sorry been there, done that). Maybe she could be a hostess at an S&M convention who knows.

You may wonder what is prompting this particular rant. Oh nothing we just wondered what it felt like to put fags out on our faces, that’s all. Nothing major - just curious! Amy was having a nice civilised …

Mum's The Word

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
footy

Let’s eavesdrop on a conversation between a newly pregnant couple. "If it’s a boy he can play football with you…" blah blah blah, you get the gist. So hundreds of dads get to look forward to spreading their football knowledge and so the football lineage continues into the next generation!

So here’s the logic, women usually hate football, they can’t stand to see it, hear it - so it follows that they won’t have much of a clue about playing it? Right? OK you’re with us so far. How about coaching then? Nah definitely not! But it runs out that when it comes to coaching football, mums outdo dads because they are naturals at motivating children.

Well that’s according to a new …

Dubai Tennis Championships: Murray v Verdasco

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
andy

K-Swiss-Fed has let rip after getting pasted by Andy Murray on Monday. Maybe he’s just letting off steam, but the world number one reckons Murray will "have to grind very hard for the next few years if he keeps playing this way. He tends to wait a lot for the mistake of the opponent."

Harsh words and although he certainly admits that he offered up the mistakes to the Scot during Monday’s first round clash of the Dubai Tennis Championships, Federer added that more was needed if Murray awanted a long term future in tennis.

But Murray who is currently playing in the third set against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the second round of the tournament fought back suggesting that different players …

FA Cup: Barnsley Flying High With Bird

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
drogba

Bodoglife.co.uk report a flood of money for Barnsley to beat Chelsea on Saturday after persistent rumours that former cricket umpire Dickie Bird will be officiating the FA Cup quarter final. As passions spill over in West Yorkshire, the bookies fear that the avid Barnsley fan will find it impossible to maintain his stoic neutral stance that was the hallmark of his umpiring career.

"Eee aye lad, them fancy dans from London won´t know what´s hit em with Mr Bird in charge," said local whippet trainer Stanley Eckerthwaite (through the help of an interpreter).

It is believed that Chelsea hit-man Didier Drogba could be singled out by Bird for extra close scrutiny.

"He´ll tek no nonsense from that diving …
