Dubai Tennis Championships: Federer Gets Murray Minted!

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Number 1 seed and four-time Dubai champ Roger Federer took on Andy Murray today for the first round of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships. This has been the first match for K-Swiss-Fed since he fell to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Federer was optimistic about the match and even said that the lack of family distractions would be to his advantage: "In Switzerland maybe I still have so many friends, families, I want to do things with. I’m maybe not there to really focus on tennis, whereas in Dubai it’s totally different. Maybe, as well, if you want to go, have a day off, like an afternoon off, you can even go to the beach, take …

Championship Promotion Race Too Tight To Call

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
footy

Forget about the ‘race for fourth’ in the Premier League – when it comes to bitten fingernails and sweaty mitts, it can’t hold a candle next to the crazy battle for promotion from Championship.

You can’t take your eyes off the top of the Championship table for a minute. One week Watford are top, then it’s West Brom, then Bristol City, then Stoke. Drop a point and you slip a place; lose a match and you’re out of the top three altogether. This one’s going right to the wire, you watch.

This weekend saw another fascinating combination of results. On Saturday, Bristol City beat Hull, West Brom saw off Plymouth – themselves not far off the pace at the top – and …

Britney Dumps Ad

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Flippin’ heck Britney Spears’ life has more twists than an episode of Eastenders and talking of drama she is the Queen of the ‘On-Off.’ She’s dumped the Brummie boyfriend Adnan Ghalib (we thought she had done this already - but on Planet Britney anything goes and the u-turn rules) for cheating on her, well that’s about as predictable as it comes.

The Lothario had saucy texts on his phone from other women - and of course allegedly bi-polar and MPD Brit saw red and threw the iPhone into the swimming pool (like you do) of her Hollywood home. Adnan aka Dirty Rat Snapper was given the marching orders tout sweet innit.

A source told the Sun Newspaper: "There were about a …

The Cheltenham Festival

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Well here we are again. All roads lead to Prestbury Park as the clock ticks down on what promises to be a magical week of National Hunt racing.

The great and the good (or the not so good as we regularly find out). Punters large and small, from near and far, wallets bulging, hearts full of optimism and conviction. Clerics, conmen, card sharps, pickpockets and of course the ubiquitous ladies of the night all converge on the lovely spa town in Gloucestershire much to the delight of the various landlords, restaurateurs, publicans and welk stall holders.

The big questions of the day like should we pull out of Iraq or bomb Iran are supplanted by far larger quandaries such …

Make Haye While The Sun Shines…

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
daivd haye

It’s not often that we get treated to a big old punch up in the old style but this weekend we’re in for a treat reminiscent of the Benn-Eubank School of Brawling. David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli get ready to square up to each other at London’s O2 Arena for this eagerly anticipated cruiserweight clash.

No wonder promoter Frank Warren has been getting his knickers in a knot: "If there is one fight I would buy a ticket to watch it would be Maccarinelli-Haye. I’m in the business of delivering big fights and this is certainly a real fight for the boxing fans and media and one that they have been clamouring for.”

27 year-old Londoner, Haye is the WBC / WBA …

Fight For The Fourth

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
moyes

In a game of ‘state the obvious’, saying that Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea will all finish in the top three this season would be right up there with ‘water is wet’ and ‘grass is green’. But predicting who will finish fourth is a slightly trickier call to make.

The bookies still say Liverpool, and you have to say that given the quality Liverpool have, they’re probably justified. But there’s something wrong with Liverpool in the league. There’s a worrying lack of consistency, and you get the distinct impression that Benitez still doesn’t know who his best team is. Sure you can slap down a few dead certs like Reina, Carragher, Gerrard and Torres, but otherwise, it’s anyone’s guess.

David Moyes (pictured) …

Cruise Gets The Jap’s Eye In The Gents

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Celebs are renowned for taking their heavies everywhere with them but even they don’t join them in the kazi. Well not normally, but if you happen to be a tad eccentric like the world’s favourite Sci lover Tom Cruise, then the minder might be required at all times.

Tom was spotted taking his body guard into the gents of a swanky LA restaurant recently and an eyewitness told the New York Post that his body guard stood very close to him as he took a slash. The source also said that Tom gave his hands a good thorough once over washing them "as fastidiously and thoroughly as a surgeon preparing for surgery. He must have washed his hands for at …

Wino's Contagious Disease

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
amy

Oh what a crisis oh what a drama - such is the tumultuous life of Amy Winehouse. Our favourite manky singer has been sporting some kind of dodgy rash on her face for a while and prompted everyone to think that she’d been up to the utmost dodgy shenanigans. Well it’s official she’s been involved in skankiness of the highest order and has contracted a highly contagious bacterial infection. God only knows who or what she caught Impetigo from, but its the reason for all the scabbiness seen on her face of late.

A spokesperson (complete with barge-pole and radiation suit) said: "Amy has been diagnosed with Impetigo which she has been told can be highly contagious. Because of that …

Chelsea v Olympiakos: Lay Off Avram!

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

I remember the first time my Dad explained to me that life was unfair. I was seven and was watching the family mutt lapping up the ice cream I´d dropped on the floor. The ice cream van had driven off and was left watching my beaming brother getting stuck into his 99. Lovely.

I think I´ve acquired a decent nose for unfairness ever since so I´ve got to speak up about the current criticism of Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

It´s unfair. The last time I checked Chelsea can still win the FA Cup, the Champions League and the Premier League. Wins against Olympiakos and Barnsley will ensure progress in the first two and if they win their Premier League game in …
