Man City owner Thaksin Shinawatra is believed to be orchestrating the possible return of bad lad Joey Barton. But it´s not back to the club… it´s to join him in jail. Shinawatra was arrested this week on his return to Thailand and is reported to want some extra "muscle" to watch over him during his stay in his Bangkok prison.

Nicknamed the Bangkok Hilton, Shinawatra´s temporary dwelling is full of some of he most savage and notorious criminals in the world, so Joey is expected to feel right at home. Shinawatra is affectionately known as Frank to the Man City faithful on account of his surname bearing a resemblance to that of former Mafioso crooner Frank Sinatra.
"Frank was very …

Gerrard Cracks At Last

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Steven Gerrard can stand it no longer, it seems. The Liverpool captain has voiced his frustration at the club’s continued failure to challenge for the league title, and no-one can blame him. Gerrard, so often a beacon of excellence for the Reds, must be tearing his hair out as the season unfolds at Anfield.

“We need to improve dramatically, and even if we do finish fourth it doesn’t mean we’ve had a good season. We have bigger ambitions than that,” said Gerrard, speaking to the official club magazine.

Amen to that. It’s obvious, but it’s true, and it needs someone of Gerrard’s stature and standing to come out and have the balls to say what we all know – Liverpool are flopping. …

Tonight Matthew You're Going To Be Jade Goody

Welcome to the jungle, it’s all fun and games…. lalala… but there’s a serious side to this and it’s called ‘ giving the other guy a right rollocking just because!

In boxing it’s called psyching the other guy out, banter that gets you hyped up and into the zone. But once you’re off the field there’s no excuse to rely on the name-calling. Fernando Alonso keeps prattling on about Lewis Hamilton and Matthew Hayden’s been digging at Harbhajan Singh. We really don’t expect anything less from Formula 1 with its fast and furious image but cricket? OK aside from those infamous Ian Botham - Imran Khan episodes back in the day, cricketers don’t really dig below the belt.

Being concerned …

Hats Off To Croatia Manager Slaven Bilic

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

In a week when Martin Taylor has received death threats from Croatia fans for his tackle on Eduardo, Slaven Bilic has come out and publicly backed the burly Birmingham player. "I don’t blame Taylor for the bad challenge. I believe Martin Taylor is a sportsman and did not try to hurt Eduardo," said Bilic, who dished out his fair share of crunching tackles during his time at West Ham.

Sensible comments Slaven. But back home in Croatia the natives are foaming at the chops with blind fury. As Taylor was visiting Eduardo in hospital a Croatia online petition set up shortly after the incident was attracting 30,000 names calling for retribution against a player described by one local newspaper as …

Strauss Still Out Of Tune

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,

Andrew Strauss will come straight back into the England team after a series of fantastic performances with the bat. Actually, scrub that – Strauss has won his place in the team back after…. after… well, after not doing very much. He was dropped from the squad which toured Sri Lanka at the end of 2007 because of poor form, and that form doesn’t seem to have improved at all, but nevertheless, he’s won a recall barring a last-minute change of heart by the England selectors.

It’s a baffling decision, this. Strauss made an excellent start to his England career, and with ten Test centuries in 43 matches, his stats look good. But bear in mind he hasn’t scored a ton in …
