Mucca for Celebrity Mum of the Year?

Heather Mills is more thrilled about winning ‘Celeb Mum of the Year’ than Macca’s millions! (AP Images)

Mums, we love ‘em. With our rose tinted glasses on we can look back at them doing what mum’s do best: wiping your nose, tidying your bedroom, forgiving the odd bit of underage drinking and generally being there. We then look at some of the celebrity mums out there and thank god that we were born to ordinary families with far from ordinary supermums.

With this in mind Beat wonders what the hell the criteria for being voted ‘Celebrity Mum of the Year’are?  We are guessing that having once given birth and appearing regularly in Heat magazine is pretty much it. So, ‘Celebrity’ Heather Mills has …

Gunners Shot At Title

by Bodog Beat News Ticker,
arsene wenger

Arsene Wenger must be laughing as the points gap increases at the top of the league. (AP Images)

It certainly wasn’t one of Arsenal’s better performances – not the swashbuckling, slick attacking play we’ve become accustomed to. But you know what they say…every cloud has da Silva lining.

It was the Croatian striker’s sweet cross, met by a powerful Senderos header that put Arsenal ahead and helped to settle the nerves. Adebayor grabbed a late goal – his 19th of the season – to put the final nail in the Blackburn Rovers coffin, but it didn’t disguise the fact that it was a jittery affair from start to finish.

What does that matter, though? There’s no column for performance ratings on the Premiership …

Colin Montgomerie misses out on a Justin Rose face-off in Arizona. (AP Images)

Next week sees the start of the 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship which takes place in Tucson, Arizona. We all love a bit of competition so you can imagine how excited we got when we saw that Brits Colin Montgomerie and Justin Rose got paired up with each other. But then American Brett Wetterich decided to pull out of the competition. (Incidentally Ernie Els pulled out too!) The spoil sport’s gone and ruined all the fun now and we have to watch Monty take on South African Rory Sabbatini and Rose will face Aussie Brendan Jones.

But small mercy’s mean that the opening day will see two all European …

Ice Age: Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell Signs UK Fight Deal

The former UFC light heavyweight champion will face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua who was once ranked as the top light-heavyweight in the world.

Despite Liddell beating Rua’s former team mate Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79: Nemesis on December 29, he might be in for a few shocks. Rua didn’t come off the better at his first UFC challenge in September where he lost out to Forrest Griffin, but that means nothing since his track record for beating some of the big boys is growing. He has even thrashed current UFC champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson twice in the first round. Who cares, well …

Deep Stack Extravaganza kicks off at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, Las Vegas. (iStockphoto)

The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, Las Vegas is, apparently, the world largest 5 diamond resort. (Film buffs may recall Pacino’s character in Ocean’s 13 claims that all of his hotels have won the award). Appropriate, then, that it is offering a sparkling ‘Deep Stack Extravaganza’ until February 24 to attract customers not swayed by the hotel’s ‘authentic gondola rides’. (UK children of the 70s, please note - Cornettos not included)

For those who are just interested in seeing diamonds on the flop, the resort’s ‘Tuscan style’ rooms are currently attracting poker players by offering tournaments with a wide range of buy-ins.

Although today’s event is a $540 Omaha …

Hair to the Six Nations throne?

Lesley Vainikolo gets ready to score big for England. (AP Images)

I change my mind about who is going to win this year´s Six Nations more than Lesley Vainikolo changes his hair-do. Then again, with a name like Lesley…

Corn rows, afros, stone the crows, Waitrose, it´s a nigh-on impossible task predicting what barnett England´s Togan "ringer" is gonna come running out onto the pitch with. But it´s the same thing when it comes to picking a winner.

World Cup finalists England turned over by the Welsh and labouring to victory against the Italians. Fancy France almost coming unstuck versus the supposedly "past it" Irish in Paris.

The bookies are sweet about the French but I´m not so sure because this could …

The 2008 Venetian Casino’s Deep Stack Extravaganza got underway recently and will be on the poker pros calendar until the 24th February. Bodog’s Ari "BodogAri" Engel took second place in the preliminary event with a tidy $16,116 for his trouble. The buy-in for the event was $540 for the Pot-Limit Omaha tournament.

With 67 people entering and 171 rebuys meant that the prizepool swelled to excess of $80 000. Bodog’s David Williams also took part but didn’t come anywhere near Engel. Paul Lui finished on top with a $26,591 sweetener.

The final table looked like this:

1 Paul Lui - $26,591168
2 Alan "Ari" …
